voice recording not bending to the microphone

I'd like to be able to sit at a table and chat with a person. What microphone do I need to just sit and chat and record our talk without need to bend to the microphone.

My sound card is Audigy SE

PZM stands for Pressure Zone Microphone. Just another (the original) name for boundary mic. It has a hemispherical pick-up pattern. That means; if you place it on your table; the pickup pattern will be a globe on top. It's like a half Cardioid mic. There is no directionality though, so be aware of other sounds in the room you may not want in the mix. Crown (popular for their power amps) originally had (has) the patent for the PZM.

Sennheiser makes a great PZM at a reasonable price. The Sennheiser E901.
If you are looking for anything a little bit cheaper, Audio-Technica has their PRO44 that will also do the trick.

Thanks. Yeah, I know. I was suggesting a PZM. Was not familiar with the other term, sorry. I bought one years ago from RS that was supposedly made by Crown, (I had a Crown when they first came out). The RS PZM was only around $30. I still have it although I don't use it often.

Yep. That's what's typically used in teleconferencing/video conferencing systems, or upstage for dance/dialog, etc.

You're options are...

Boundary mic, as mentioned. Very common for conference calls / meeting tables.

A single omni or fig-8 mic in the middle of the table.

Two mics - one for each person.

I used to specify these for City Hall chambers and that sort of thing. They come with our without a trigger as I recall.

The Radio Shack PZM was surprisingly, a really good mic, especially for the bucks. Yeah...I went back and then though it might not be a question, sorry bout that....Oh well, anyone else who read it will know now.

You could also try an inexpensive omni. Placed on the table if I'm not mistaken all (most?) of the signal and the hard reflection from the table is coherent much like a PZM.
