voice audio editing

Does anybody have any advise on how to edit voice recordings like say removing words or sentences from within a talk recorded thru Audigy 2 on a wav file. What software or program should I use for this? Also I need to remove background hissing noise from my tape transfers to digital while keeping the quality in tact. Any good ideas?

For single or 2-track editing, I most often use Sound Forge (now Version 8)....

I'm a Sound Forge guy too. The standard for mono or stereo audio editing.

If you are interested in freeware or open source (*shudder*), then check out Audacity on SorceForge. It's no SoundForge, but it's also free.
