You need a soundcard, a mic and some type of preamp for the mic.

Cubasis vox

Thanks for the reply people. I do have a budget but what the hell I need to get some vocals sorted. thanks again

I cant give you any advice if you dont tell me exactly how much you can /willing to spend.

How about this mic here and you can get this mic-pre here since you didnt specify a certain price. :D

Good Luck!

here goes

If you're on a tight budget like me, you can buy a Tascam US-122 to start out with. Also, grab a cheap Bellari or Presonus preamp and a $150 condensor mic. Maybe one of those AKG (brand name) mics. You will have spent less than $500 and even less if you can find some of these items (or similar items) used. If there is a Guitar Center in you area, tell them what you're looking for. Be honest when they ask you "how much are you looking to spend" and they will ask. If you're not careful (or as much of an asshole as I am), you'll be talked into spending more than you need to get started.
The Us-122 is a kinda sound interface that hooks directly into your USB port in your computer. It's purpose is to send the audio to and from the computer.
You plug the mic into the preamp, the preamp into the US-122 and the Us-122 into the computer (not necessarily in that order) and you're good to go.
You'll love Cubase and all its capabilities and features and when you decide you want to upgrade and get really serious about home recording, you'll sell that mic, preamp and interface to a bright-eyed kid or pesty relative who is ready to get started and folllow in your footsteps.
Recommendations on equipment may vary, but the point is, You have to decide what your willing to do with the amounrt of money you have.
Happy trackin'
Oh, by the way, how do you get any of your other sounds into Cubase Reason, Fruity loops, etc)?
