vocal tracks - 1 or 2? (or 3??)

I have been making a copy of my vocal track & mixing the dry track with the processed one that goes to the aux. Sometimes I've even had a 3rd track with different processing. I'm starting to think this is unnecessary.

Do other people use more than one track usually? Thanks.
 
They do, but it's usually a doubled part. Singing it twice that is.

IMHO, just copying the track is doing nothing for you. If you want to parallel compress it, just put a comp on an aux.
 
What does parallel compress mean? I usually run the comp as an insert for both trax & the time-based fx as an aux.
 
You said you mixed the dry track with the one that went to the aux.

"dry" to me meant no effects, but you mean as in no reverb? Then, there is even less of a point to doing what you are doing. Just adjust the level of the send or the level of the reverb track.......

Parallel compression is compressing one track while leaving the other uncompressed (when you just copy a track, or I do it the way I described above - although not on vox normally, I do it on the drum OH's/room mic's)
