Alright so this is gunna be short and simple...

1- record a vocal track
2- double that track
3- on the doubled track put some more compression
4- once the compression is on get an eq out and bring the low freq. down all the way and the high ones up most the way. ( it will sound very distant from you )
5- layer that track on the original vocal track and make it about 25% less loud than the first track.
6- add reverb on the original as well :)

there ya go.. make your vocal tracks sound beautiful in 10 min!

let me know how it goes for people

haha yup he gots it down good :) WATCH THAT VID EVERYONE IF YOU WANT TO SEE HOW LOL

Ir's called "Parallel Compression" and it's been in use since the 60's.

bring the low freq. down all the way and the high ones up most the way
Do you mean enhance the gain on the lows and highs and pass them, or do you mean cut the lows and highs and shelve them?

Very interesting. When you say 'double track' the vocals, do you mean do 2 takes of the same vocals, or just copy / past the same 'take' into another sequencer track and apply the effects to that? Thanks.

being able to sing helps some too....

nah, not pulling anyone's leg here.....:D
but practice makes perfect ;)

A variation on this idea is to set up a compressor or two on effect sends. Then, you can send some vocals, drums, etc and get some nice parallel compression happening. Search for Michael Brauer Compression on Google and you'll find some good info. He basically groups things into different groups based on their range, then has some really dirty/crushed compressors on sends.

Parallel compression can sound very good on the 2 buss, as well, if you have a comp that has a blend function.

If you want a modern, in-your-face vocal sound, insert an eq and roll the high end off a bit, then insert an L1 (or Yohng's W1) limiter and crush the hell out of it. Sounds like everything on the radio these days!
