That SMART guy.
I am looking for a mic pre/vocal strip at the moment.

What I certainly need in it is a nice mic pre. A nice little tube warmth to it, so a coloring pre. And it needs a compressor (recording digital, don't like to work with the compressor in my workstation).

So, there are some possibilities. The dude at my local shop talked about the focusrite platinum series. Which would probably be too crispy and clear for what I want. And the TL audio ivory series. (all shops over here carry these. Hard to find something else...)

The ivory serie has 2 candidates. The 5051 and the 5050. So my question is: how usefull is an EQ on the vocal strip? I don't like to work with the EQ on my workstation either, but you should use it to correct your tracks, or put them somewhere in the mix, so how usefull is in the recording chain?
