Planning to record vocals using the SM58.

Only problem is, no "vocal preamp" or soundcard with XLR ins/outs.

Instead im using my guitar processor(Line6 podxtl). Now before anybody starts the dissing, we dont have cash, availability for rent or any of that. So its this or nothing.

Just wanted to know, have any of you tried doing it this way?

Also, if any help/tips. Will be greatly appreciated.

How are you going to plug an XLR mic into a Pod? There's no XLR inputs on an XT Live, you can't make the physical connections.

I would assume an XLR-1/4" transformer (buzzy) to the Pod input.

What are you recording with (ie laptop/Garage Band, etc)

I have a cable which is XLR to 1/4".

Tried recording vocals..they dont sound great at all but then okay for the setup I guess.

Any help?

Doesn't your soundcard have mini sound inputs(or at least a mic one)? Adapt the 1/4" down another step - but use a short cable adapter so all the strain of the adapter weight is not on the input jack.

Adapt it shorter as in? To a 3.5 mm. Sorry if the question is dumb. N00bness.:D

Buy this, or something similar:

Whack it in your POD/Mic input. Be sure not to let the weight of the device and the cable hang off the input jack on the PC. It will break the sound card if you do.

*sigh* But seriously, an XLR to USB interface cost nothing. Really you can pick one up for hardly anything.
