I'm trying to rig up a really really basic set up for recording vocals and i know nothing about it...so yea here's a bit about me and what i'm going for here

I'm big on vfx and gfx (video/graphic editing and what not) and i've recently been inspired to do a bit of musical stuffs: me and some friends are just trying to write some stuff for some semi-serious fun. Anyways the point is that i have good speakers and a nice sub with a pretty good comp set up.

We've gotten to the point where we want to record vocals and the live instruments that we can play; my friend has a really large basement with hardwood floor and decent wall ratio and we record all our instrumental stuff there. However, for vocals, my friend is a bit (a lot) casual about the set up and how the recordings are. He has a really nice set up in terms of equipment but everything like the location of the mic and massive amounts of humming that he just cuts out by dropping the input really annoy me.

Basically i want to set up a vocal-recording area in my bedroom where i can work on vocals in a more meticulous manner; all i really have in it is my pc/desk, bed, and a sofa. I'd like to record instruments here too but its really not going to happen given what i have. Anyways, its something like 15x13x8.5ft, so its really not too big.

I've been looking around and trying to find information, but i can't really find the exact information i'm looking for.

All i need is to be able to record vocals in the best manner possible given my room. I have a Sterling ST51 which is fine for what i'm trying to do. My question is how should i layout my room? Like i said my room is 15x13 - where should i put the mic, facing what direction, etc. And should i soundproof/treat anything, dampen any corners, etc. The room is carpeted - should i do anything to compensate for that? What should i do with the window in my room. etc.

Thanks. And wow i typed way more than i planned on

There's a whole section in these forums for studio building, check it out!

Yes i've been/am browsing there but i can't really find what i'm looking for, most likely because im terrible at searching...but thats why i'm asking here T_T
