I was having level issues last night. Basically, I have a condenser mic through my board w/phantom power. Board out to a breakout box (24bit ad/da conv.) to my pc. The trim on the breakout box was barely (maybe a quarter) up. Any more and it would spike. The problem is, even though I WASN'T clipping anything, some peaks would make wicked digital distortion. I've never had this problem before. I had to do multiple takes and lost some pretty good ones. Anyone have a clue what could cause this? Should I have brought the level down on my mixing board (it was in the yellow) and perhaps increase the gain on the breakout box (cport)? It really bugged me. Thanks in advance.
