Can anyone tell me what benifits are gained from using vocal processors I notice they seem to have become very popular and are advertised all over the place. Our vocalist can sing in tune and sing backng vocals, we have a reasonably good vocal sound. I guess they must do something other than make a male vocalist sound female (Our singer can do a great Randy Crawford impression)
Does anyone out there use one and if so, what am I missing?

You're probably thinking of a vocal channel strip. They basically offer a combination of features; mic preamp, and usually EQ, de-esser, and compressor.

And it's like all in one box even, dude.

If you mean a channal strip and insist in quality I wouldnt waste my money on a "all in one".

To put into one box a compressor-Eq-Pre-and more, and to expect
quality is IMHO asking for to much.

Unless you're talking about something really good and high-end. Like maybe a Behringer. :) :)

If you ever have the opportunity to use some of the all-in-one boxes from Millenia Media, Massenburg, Pendulum Audio, etc. you might change your mind...
