How/when do you notice the difference? When you open files? When you hit "play" in PT? Just wondering. I wouldn't mind having a SSD sometime.. but they are so expensive.

well on the laptop the difference is night and day, cos the original drive was 5400rpm.

the system boots soooooo much quicker. shutdown takes literally about 2 seconds, loading programs is a lot faster (like protools)

importing audio in protools is very very fast and even loading heavy plugins is nippier..

obviously backing up sessions and stuff is a lot quicker too..

i'm not sure how much of a difference i'd see between raptors and ssds, but it's handy to be able to pull and ssd out of the machine to be portable,,without having to worry about breaking it in transit, since there are no moving parts!

also...in normal temperatures the laptop is literally silent now..so recording on it is really nice.

Awesome. I checked and my desktop HDDs are 7200 RPM. Not the greatest, but faster than 5400 at least.

Well, my computer just crashed...heading out to get some new hard drives...which brand and best for home studio recording...getting two 80gb drives most likely

Hard drives are pretty cheap these days. About $50 for a 500GB, 7200 rpm. I use Seagate Barracudas.
