Vocal Mic

I know this is a subjective question but if you had a choice between a AKG C214, Rode NTK, Avantone C12 and a MXL Genesis for vocals, which would you buy ? I'm looking for a overall mic that can cover the most ground now. I will adjust as time goes on. Experience ? Opinions ?
 
I would get the avantone without question. Robert Plant used one for his main vox on his latest album.
 
I've done a bit of homework and I'm looking for a dedicated vocal mic that doesn't break the bank. The budget is about $800 or less. I have a few cheaper mics that serve me well but I need something that can match up with my preamps. I have a Grace m101, a UA Solo 610 and a Presonus Eureka. Those preamps cover a lot of ground and I need something for a higher male/female vocal style that can meet them in the middle.
 
Don't ignore dynamic mics. I also have a Grace M101. It loves dynamic mics, and the ribbon mode switch on that pre gives dynamics a little boost as well.

Then it's the EV RE20 that should be purchased ..... Good I'm glad that's settled.
 
The Avantone has the most complete soundfield of all those choices. I know of a couple of people who wanted the C214 to have the same crisp character as the 414 and were dissappointed. Also look at the Miktek mics. Extreme value and in your price range. Small company, high quality, great sound. ADK is another company that produces many fine sounding mics. Kel mics is another small company that builds excellent mics.
 
I go nowhere without my Avantone electics CK-40 multi pattern stereo microphone ! ! !

...if you're considering the Avantone CV-12, then you should also give the Stellar CM-6 some thought...it's manufactured in the same factory and is further upgraded than the CV-12 (CM-6 capsule & transformer are upgraded while CV-12 has the stock Apex 460 capsule and transformer)...IMHO, it's a better sounding, more versatile vocal mic (we have a CV-12 to compare, which has since been modded by JJ Audio)...worth a look:

It's a good tube condenser microphone but it's only a Cardioid. For the money I would go with the Mojave Audio MA-300 Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone. ;)
