I have an AKG C2000b, and was thinking for a vocal mic of going up to around 600 dollars. which would you suggest? I've read the CAD m9 is good, or the Rode Ntk, or the Shure KSM 32... or somethign else.

any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

Yo Rocketboy! You ask a tough question, because... The bitch of it is, no one can predict what mic(s) will sound good on any given singer, on any given song, key, room, mix, etc. Some people just get along with certain mics, and no one can accurately predict it. Worse, you can't tell if it will be cheap or expensive either. All anyone can do is list some mics that work for other people in the price range. My picks-

Dynamics-Beyerdynamic M300, Sennheiser MD441, Shure SM7B

Tube mics- Rode NTK, AT 4060, Studio Projects T-3

Fet Condensers- AKG C414B-ULS, Shure KSM44, Studio Projects C-3, B.L.U.E. Baby Bottle/Dragonfly

Good Luck-Richie

heres an mp3 for a song called "Been Missing You" and "Your Dad's Daughter" at hazzlemp3s.iuma.com

if that helps.

I don't think it does help much. Often the mics that make a singer sound good are not the ones you expect. Your C2000B is one of those thar just works for some singers. Other mics I've found that work well on some singers (cheapies) include MXL V67, Oktava MK319, Studio Projects B-1. I think the best thing you can do is buy mics that you know are good for other stuff, and then stick them in front of whatever singers you have and see what you like. Trying to predict what will work on any given singer usually fails.-Richie

Hmmmm!

What are ou expecting to gain with this new mic? A more open High end, A more full sound. About all anyone could tell you would be "compared to x mic y mic is brighter" etc.

What ever you do I would buy from a place with a liberal return policy:) I'd go for two mic's that ad up to $600 my self. I think the AT-3035 is great for the price. I lust after a AT-4033.. they are out of production but there is a new AT-4033CL..... it's suposed to be a reissue that i think is supposed to be slightly improved.. We all know how that goes ;)

Some of the MXL mic are pretty good according to reviews.. on the otherhand some of them are really supposed to suck...

SP mics have had a great rep around here as well...

Good Luck

I'd probably just get a C414B-ULS new on ebay (about $600) becuse it will be a great mic for a bizzillion applications, and some people can even sing through it.-Richie
