I'm shocked and horrified that I might actually start gigging.

Met up with an old friend a few weeks ago and he's interested in doing acoustic versions of originals. I've got a few and he's got a few. Should be a lot of fun.

Now I'm thinking what I might need for live use and a good mic comes to mind. I've a got a 58 but I'm not crazy about it. I was reading around online about handheld condensor mics and was wondering what the general consensus on those are. Are they worth the money?? I found a Sennheiser e865 for about $200. Anyone have experience with this or something similar??

Henry?? You out there???

peace,

:D

Hearing your voice from your video ... I would suggest to you the Electro-Voice N/D767a Dynamic Supercardioid Vocal Microphone.

Check it out next time your near a GC. Am sure that you will like it.

Thanks for teh quick reply!!! :)

So, stick with a dynamic mic, right? Would stage noise be part of the reasoning, or strictly based on vocal tone??

Price is pretty good, too. I can handle that!!

Yes - volume before feedback and tonal quality.

PM coming soon.

Thanks Henry. I'll be making a trip to GC soon and check out both.

Tomm has three of them in the Want Ads here but it looks like a trade only.
Maybe he will sell you one.

Yeah Chili - check out the EV dynamics. I like the RE-10 and the others that look like it. From what I remember about your voice, that's what I'd try. Congrats on the gigging!

Hey A-Chef. Great to see you again. Hopefully, I've got my voice under better control than the last time you heard it. :o

Thanks!!

That seems a little spendy for an RE-16, but perhaps not. Maybe I just set my expectations 5 years ago, when it seemed like everyone was dumping these old EVs. I don't have any experience with the RE-16, but based on what I've read, I'd probably pick it over the RE-10 because I heard that QC was a little tighter (and maybe that's why it costs more)

edit: Chili - I'm just glad you never heard *my* voice :)

I just got back from GC. They didn't have a mic room and I wasn't up for trying out mics in the PA room AND they only had the 767 out of the mics suggested here AND they offered a 30% discount AND threw in a free mic cable AND allow up to 30 days to return if I don't like it, so I bought it!!! Got the EV 767.

I'll give it a try tomorrow night at practice and in the following weeks. Maybe do a little recording with it to see how it sounds compared to what I'm accustomed to hearing.

Thanks to everyone for teh great advice. Especially Henry!!. :)

Good buy Chili, in case you're still interested, sell all 3 967's for $250 with free shipping within CONUS. Not really wanting to sell just one.

Thanks Tomm. I'll have to pass for now, but best wishes for selling your gear. I imagine $250 is a good price for all three.

Well that's a deal and a half, David! :thumbs up:

I sure hope that you like the way it reproduces your voice.
To bad the Lt. didn't see this thread and had chimed in for the N/D767a is the vocal microphone that he uses live and gives it great reviews as well.

Theres a reason The Pros use 58 and 87 one you will find out soon enough

Ummm... okayyyy. Thanks for playing.

The Pro's use a lot of different mics for a lot of different applications. Both of those mics could very well be a poor choice for Chili.
