what is Vocal Exciters?


what are common/good of this(especially for RnB/HipHop)? and how to do them?


im working on an Autotuned RnB Song(like T-pain Songs/Voice).
i wanna know some of this so that i could i apply them to this project im currently working on.

Exciters add a frequency (or frequency range for that matter) which brings out the harmonics of your audio. You can simulate this by adding an EQ, selecting a small range of frequencies, boosting them, then use a compressor to even it out.

These are good for when your song sounds too dull.

Vocal exciters are insidious devices that do one thing very well, several things poorly, and one thing badly.

The several things they do poorly are they change the sound of the signal (usually the voice of someone who can't sing worth a shit.)

The one thing they do badly is make the voice of someone who can't sing worth shit listenable- it's like the old computer programmer's adage' "garbage in, garbage out."

But, the ONE thing they do quite well, that one thing they do a marvelous job of, is SEPARATING YOU FROM YOUR MONEY.

They do NOTHING for "the common good."
