what are your suggestions for vocal chanel for live use, keep under 300$

Depends on the PA. If the PA is any good, you are unlikely to get better sound in that price range. A live vocal channel is mostly for adding additional processing to vox going into a very good PA. The question is- what are you using right now, and what are you trying to change?-Richie

i do lots of small PA's in underground clubs,
most of the time the PA is just terrible, and the guy who stands behind the mixer isn't even a DJ,
so i think its a real good idea to have your own voice channel strip,

what i use formyself is a symetrix 528
(preamp, de.esser, compressor, parametric eq)

u should be able to find one for around $200 i think,
when i'm singing(screaming) onstage i used to give a comrpessor to the PA-man but .....sigh..... there's ALOT of people out there that have NO IDEA what a compressor is,
don't let them ruin your live gig, make sure U got control over your sound if the PA sucks and the PAman isnt an engineer

if the PA is good, then u can still use very moderate settings, bypass or just leave the channel strip

i also did lots of tests with my joemeek vc8 fathead,
cause its got built in distortion, i love the distortion but i think the compressor doesn't give enough control for live...its got presets, sometimes u don't know what the thing does... and the EQ isn't that great i think..

my cheapest solution:

symetrix 202 mic preamp (two xlr preamps), very cheap,
connected to a symetrix sx201 (mono fully parametrix eq)
connected to dbx163x (mono compressor)

each of these units can be found for about $50 each, and the sound IS very decent, maybe even good,
u can choose urself to put the compressor before the eq,
but i think it sounds better this way...and i don't care about some 'natural distortion' on my screams, but thats just me

(if u dont use the compressor in this signal chain its possible that the PAman, if its an amateur, will be changing the gain constantly, or he might leave it as it is but i hate it when the ears of the audience start bleeding)

my 2 cents
