vocal booth insulation

hi people,
I am building a vocal booth with my dad. using mdf, glue foam (stuff), and foam to lay inside the walls, is foam enough? Suggestions please for sound insulation. Thanks.

There are two aspects to 'insulation' absorbtion (preventing the sound from bouncing all around and making it sound like you are in a small hard room) and isolation (making it so you are not heard outside the room and more importantly what is outside the room from polluting your recording).

If it is accoustic foam (and not just eggcrate mattress foam, which is not designed for accoustic properties and is generaly a fire hazard) then you might be OK in the absorbtion department. It will not have a lot of bass absorbtion unless it is thick, but neither may your voice need that much bass absorbtion. If it still seems like your booth is rumbly in the low frequencies get some corner bass traps.

Isolation is a whole different animal. You need MASS, ideally in a Mass-cushioned air-Mass arrangement, and good seals all around.
