As the title says I have an old Peavey VMP2 mic preamp. A real nice unit. This unit has 12AX7's and 12AT7's. Could anyone make some suggestions on good tubes to replace the originals.
Thanks

the usual suspects-- telefunken, amperex, rca, mullard, valvo, siemens, adzam, mazda, bugle boy, ge, etc.

if you can get some GE's they are nice. Also Amperex i think more money
Mullars for a warmer sound

I used the GT Mullard copies in mine for the 12 AX7s and real Mullards for the 12AT7s. Smoother, cleaner and a bit less gain.

Thanks guys. I've been doing some research on this and the winner seems to be the telefunken tubes but the cost is high. You need 3 12ax7's and 1 12AT7 per side. I think I'm going to check into some older RCA black plates. Heard good things about them.

Yup, replacing 8 tubes with NOS really adds up quick. You can have more $$ in tubes in your pre than some people on this board spend on their entire pre.

You can't replace the tubes on those cheap crappy sounding Peavys. You should just cut your losses and sell it to me for cheap. :D

Or you could find a GT MP-1. Single channel and only 2 tubes if I remember right. A bit more hifi than the Peavey, but no built in EQ (have to get an EQ-1 for that - with more tubes).
