Hey all! I've got a VM-3100 Pro, and while I'm mostly happy with it, I've been wondering if the preamps are holding me back. I do get an audible amount of hiss with my AKG C-414s when recording quieter things. I've been considering the purchase of a nice stereo preamp, which would then go into the VM-3100 as a line input.
Does anyone have a feel for the relative quality of the preamps? Would a quality ($500-1000 per channel) outboard preamp give me a significantly cleaner signal if I ran it into the VM-3100 as a line input? They don't publish a number for the EIN, so it's hard to compare, and I don't have access to any preamps to test.
Thanks for any help!
