Virtual Sound Canvas

I've been wanting to try this for years.
Well, My VSC-88 showed up and I got the chance to try it out. A disappointing experience.
First off the sounds don't sound even close to the real module. Why not? I've selected the highest quality playback parameters that are available and am using a Gina card for the D/A conversion. BTW- the sounds were exactly the same when played through a SB 128 card instead. If the difference lies in the D/A conversion on the soundcard, the Gina should've sounded at least somewhat different from the Soundblaster. It didn't.
Second, when tested on a Celeron 433 PC with 128MB RAM the playback crapped out at the beginning of every piece, then played OK after that. The crapout manifested itself as a decrease in tempo that smoothly came up to "normal" playback speed after a few notes.
At least it was a cheap experiment.
