Wtf is a PRS
Ok, so i get a message that popped up in the middle of some tracking, it said windows didn't have enough virtual memory or something so it was going to fix it for me to make things better. . . .

Wrong...

Now my page file usage is up to 1.08 GB and everything i touch now goes to hell in a handbasket.

I went into the Advanced Performance options in my computers preferences and the virtual memory is set to where i wanted it?

Any idea whats is going on here? Am inot looking in the right place?

What are the specs of your pc?
What program are you running?
Have you tried disabling your paging file altogether?
Are you running any other programs while tracking?

its an lap top few years old, HpZD8000, 34GhzIntel Pentium, XPSP02 Media Centre edition 1Gb of Ram.

Only thing running was reaper and Ezdrummer.

I have (i think) only the necessary processes running. bare bones as it gets?

Um, I haven't tried disabling the page file? I'm not sure it will let me. Will that help?

Yea i think i got it, it had to turn the whole page file off all together retart and re-set a different value. Lame.

So much for getting a little too experimental and i had ez drummer used as a plug in on 3 tracks...

I wont go into the reasons why...

But it would seem that was what was causing part of my melt down.

I do need more ram indeed. no question. Its on my list of things with my tax return this year !!! haha

Thanks guys. I'll know better for next time.

Yup :D

I think just a little more would help but getting another Gig wouldn't hurt.
I'm running windows 7 and I can run EZdrummer, superior drummer, and just about any other synth or vst I want with 1.5GB ram and a 2Ghz processor

I haven't tested the limit on how much it will take before crapping out but I haven't run into any problems yet.
Either way, good luck! :D

you might want to try a freeware called Game Booster http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
I've used it for recording booster, frees RAM etc

Where it says "games" substitute "recording" ...

Highly Recommended by Most PC Gamers!

Designed to help optimize your PC for smoother, more responsive game play in the latest PC games with the touch of a button, Game Booster helps achieve the performance edge previously only available to highly technical enthusiasts.

It works by defragmenting game directories, temporarily shutting down background processes, cleaning RAM, and intensifying processor performance. That means you can keep all the features of operating systems ready for when you need them, but turn them off when you are ready to get down to serious business – gaming.

I'm assuming the OP's question is pretty much answered so I hope he doesn't
mind a slight hijacking :o

I've been using Guitar Rig 3 for a while now. Always runs fine as a standalone,
and used to run fine on Pro Tools LE 8. Yesterday I had a session with one
mono audio track (for the DI'd signal) routed through a stereo bus to a stereo
aux with guitar rig as a plugin. Those were the only tracks in the session, and it
crapped out on me constantly (no other programs running, just PT).

I'm on an iMac w/ 2.16GHz dual-core processor and 3gb of RAM, which should
be powerful enough for that (I mean I've been running sessions recently with
30/40+ audio tracks and plenty of stereo aux tracks for delays and reverbs).

But the internal HD's capacity is only 130gb and I've used up 100gb, could that
be a part of the problem?

Ever tried peavey revalver?

I love it so much I gotta spread the news :D
I think it completely PWNS guitar rig or amplitube or any other sim I've ever used.
Just IMO ... But you should still try it out ;)
Sorry for the slight detour! Now some one answer philbaggs question!! Cause I have no idea...

Yes....

I ran into that a few years ago with another PC, 80gb hardrive, and i think i was up to 62 or 63 gb's used and it was just unreliable. At that point i was lucky if i could actually get 30 seconds of recording done. . .

And on top of that, i had to create a new project for each guitar bass vocals i did, laying the drum track back on an mp3 player.

Keep your hardrive neat and tidy.

And really for the price that they are these days you can get a 500gb external HD for very cheap. And if my memory serves me correctly you can set that hard drive as the default one to stream your audio into...

NOt sure if that helps....

I must have a look at that. I've still got bigger fish to fry considering the first
part of the chain, the guitar. The one I'm using is shite. Once I get that sorted,
I'll be flying :D Is there a trial version available?

Yes....

I thought as much  I have a 300gb external drive, so I'll do a cleanup
of the internal drive when I get a chance. I've been kind of putting it off.
The only problem with my drive is that Pro Tools won't read or write audio
to the external. It's just a matter of copying and pasting before and after I
guess.

Thanks guys, much appreciated :D
