Vintage Altec N809-8A Crossover. Change crossover point?

Anyone know if the crossover point in a vintage 2-way Altec N809-8A crossover box can be changed? These are vintage hardwired 8 ohm units with an OEM crossover point of 800 hz. I'd like to change it to 1600 hz. Anyone know how to do it?

If it is a simple LC (one L one C) crossover you can just halve the value of the capacitor feeding the tweeter and you should in theory change the inductor value but that is rarely so easy.

But such simple circuits are rarely found in speakers of any quality, normally you will find at least two inductors and two caps and several resistors. This is a complex, interdependent network and should not be modified since you will almost certainly bugger the response mightily.

It is even possible (tho unlikely) to so mess up a crossover that it puts the amp in danger!

Dave.

Yes you can change the value of the crossover point of your device. For this you just have to need to change the value of capacitors and the inductorss. Adjust them at different values and it will give you the required results.
