At least I think that's what it's called. Does anybody have one they can record and send to me? I need it for a project I'm doing and don't have one available. Just one slap is all.

Thanks in advance!

I might be able to help. When I get home tonight I'll see what I can do.

7, or Track Rat, what is this vibraslap? Is it a note, or sound, or an instrument? I think I've heard a term like that before, but never what it is.

Thanks, just a curiousity from reading the post..
Ed

It's a percussion instrument.

If you're familiar with Traffic's Low Spark, a vibraslap marks the end of the intro and the beginning of the verse.

It's all throughout the intro to "Sweet Emotion", and Rush uses one liberally in "Closer to the Heart". it's the "rattlesnake" sound.

very cool sound, easy to overuse, and tends to "date" the production somewhat. :D :p

cheers,
wade

Cool...Thanks for informing me. That's probably why I have heard of one, but never have gotten a real answer, and was probably calling it a wrong name or something.

Thanks.

hell no, you can't overuse a vibro-slap, it's the new cow bell. :p

Anyone heard "the tide is high" by "Blondie"? Is that a vibra slap near the begining of the song. Think it is just before the first chorus or just after the intro.

Thanks, Track Rat! Much appreciated. I wasn't sure if anybody would know what I was talking about. All the one's that I have personal experience with fade pretty fast but every one I've ever heard on record is much longer. I'm guessing it's digitally stretched or something. At least if it's not long enough that's what I'm going to attempt! ;)

I have one here, but I wouldn't know where or how to post it so you can get it. In the meantime, HERE is a lo-fi sample of one.

Thanks! Wow. That was pretty low-fi alright. It didn't even sound like a vibraslap to me. But thanks for the effort! I'll PM you on how to get it to me if you want to record a slap for me. Thanks!

Bah my fekin computer aint gonna let me hear the lo-fi vibraslaper. :(

the vibraslap is a foundational instrument for the band CAKE. When they play live the singer has one in hand for atleast half the show. It is featured on almost every song!

I tracked a band last week that spend a good 1/2 hour in the booth hitting one of those things.... good times

If anyone does record one could they post the clip here because I think I might be interested in using it in an upcoming song.
