Hat STYLE. Not contents.
Yeah, some years back, my sister and I wrote a song about cereal. (Click the song title to download the mp3.

I've abandoned trying to record analog drums for now. Most of the percussion here is spliced together from the Amen Break.

As always, advice, criticisms, and unadulterated praise are appreciated.

Just as whacky as most of your other stuff, but I gotta hand it to ya. You're getting better at mixing. I thought the beat you put to the verses worked really well. The chorus beat needs more work. :) A bit too many verses for my taste. Need to spice it up with something other than A-B-A-B-A-B-A-B-A.

That said, the overall sound of this tune seemed to up the ante a bit for you. Good job!

Haha...no-one is freakier than you, Steve! :D
I really like this one though, nicely mixed and arranged too. If I had any nits, I would say the drums need to come thru better. But it's really good!

Joey :):):):)

I think it's great. Quirky little tune. Can actually imagine that on a cereal advert in the 80's with Smurfs or something doing the backing!

Rock on!

Thanks everyone. Rep points for all! (Except PI, whom I've apparently already upvoted too recently.)

PI:
Yeah the V C V C... progression kind of grates on me too. We wrote this back in high school before I knew any better, and I haven't ever been inspired to add a bridge or anything. Maybe I'll do a mix at some point with a verse or two cut.

MC:
Man! I wish Vocaloid had a Smurf version! I'd so buy that!

Greg:
Ha ha! Yeah, we're all pretty weird. Though my older sister is probably the least weird of all.

Honestly. This is just a cry for help.:laughings:

Pretty cool...the mix is gratifyingly eccentric. Bottom end is gone, but it works. The structure is surprisingly rigid for such a free form idea but that weird duality is what makes this tune work. Mix overall is very cool...everything's in it's place and no crowding.

I dig.

A cry for help launching my global cereal empire? :D

Thanks for the positive comments!

Bottom end is always a delicate balance when working with The Abomination since it can get overwhelmingly muddy pretty quick.

Nice one. One of the better mixes of yours I've heard. It is a really odd arrangement to say the least, but pretty well put together and surprisingly tight given all of the seemingly chaotic elements.

I like the percussion on this, but could stand to hear it come up some.

Killer thread title.

Thanks.

So the consensus definitely seems to be that a drum machine setup works far better than trying to record analog right now.

I thought the drums worked, and liked the song/mix - the arrangement could be a little more broken up.
The only thing that occurred to me - and this isn't so much a suggestion for improvement as it is a suggestion for experimentation - I thought the lead vocal was a bit to buried in the mix and wanted to hear more definition around it. As to how to act on that, I have no idea, and putting myself in your place, I probably wouldn't act on it - but there you go.

Funny in one way... Not so funny in another LOL

It sounds decent and as long as you're having fun that's all that matters.

Thanks, guys.

Buried vocals end up being an unusual thing with my music. I kind of pride myself on my clear enunciation when singing, but then I go ahead and bury the vocals, so you can understand them anyway. :D

Well, I would like to make a million dollars off of these songs, but since that's probably a long shot, I can settle for sounding decent and having fun. :D
