vf160 thoughts...

ive been using the vf160 for a few months now to make a cd ive been working on. im playing all the instruments through SHURE mics and recording onto the 160. after that i burn to a wav and mix on the computer with Tracktion. someone introduced me to a free download of tracktion and its working great as far as compression and EQ and whatnot. this combo is pretty flexible and works great in my case.

what are your ideas or thoughts on this? and what have you been doing in the past that has worked for you?

Lots of people do this kind of thing. Editing on a PC is always easier than on a standalone unit... Plus some say the effects tend to be better.

Simple: if it works, do it!

I started out with a simple 4 track (Tascam MF-P01 and Fostex X-18) doing instrumental stuff, then connecting it to my line in on my pc and using Roxio 6 to convert to wave and burn to CD. Not bad, but not what I wanted.
I moved up to the Fostex MR-8, and at first I was mixing everything onboard. Again, not great.
I moved up to mixing on pc using Vegas 5.0 and the Mr-8's wavemanager program to move individual tracks as .wav files. Works great, but I am using standard pc speakers to monitor, so I have to burn to a CD-RW and test out my mixes on different stereos to make sure I didn't blow it.
One note: I send individual tracks to my pc, not bounced down tracks. You lose a lot of flexibility in your mix when you do that.
