Since we don't have USB, and the manual states that S/PDIF can be used for file transfers, the Edirol UA1D USB SPDIF Digital Audio Computer Interface might be an interesting option for VF<-->computer file transfers. Also adds S/PDIF (optical and coaxial) to your USB computer/laptop (this should be especially interesting to Digitech GNX owners).

Note that it won't take the place of the Fostex COP-1 if you want to record directly to the VF with a coxial S/PDIF source. It's an interface, not a converter.

That's a good spot, Paj. Also useful for desktops as it saves having to buy a SPDIF equipped soundcard.
 
Amen---and you don't have to worry about the coax/optical thing. I picked this up on a GNX forum.

I use this setup. I have the VF80 and Edirol UA-1D.

I use Doggiebox (www.doggiebox.com) on Mac OS X to sequence drums. I then go out from the UA-1D to the S/PDIF input on the VF80. Then when all other tracks are done, and I'm ready to mix down....I mix down to Sound Studio (or Peak 3.5) via the S/PDIF output to the UA-!D. It works like a charm....

The only gotcha is that the UA-1D does not provide any sample-rate conversion. The VF-80 expects all input at 48khz... and the UA-1D sends everything out at 44khz.

So..when I record drums to the VF-80, I actually have to speed them up a bit before sending the audio out to the UA-1D. It was a bit of trial and error at first, but now, it's no big deal. Some of the more expensive Edirol USB interfaces handle this sample rate issue.

Sorry....I mixed things up a bit. VF80 expects a 44khz signal and the Edirol sends out 48...

i also use the edirol adaptor with my vf80, and pretty much the same programs mentioned above. It works like a charm; also, i was told i could only export two tracks at a time using this method, but i seem to be able to send whatever tracks i want simultaneously....so thats always a plus.
 
Spdif is digital audio. For VF file transfers the only way in and out of the VF is the SCSI port or the CD on the newer models.

Spdif will be only two tracks at a time. A file transfer will be all of the tracks in sync.
 
scsi port doesnt mean file transfer to a pc afaik? just to a removable media like zip drive.

i hope im wrong.
