just got my hands on a vf-16 etc ive been recording 4 track demos into the vf for future reference etc and to get to know the ops. ive been recording the sound dry then adding efects, now i have been trying to record all 4 tracks with efects added and all parameters etc and then sending it through the buss record to say tracks 7 & 8. so thats playback tracks 1-4 entered into buss and effects then applying to tracks 7 & 8 although during the playback and monitoring the pre recorded sound at tracks 7 & 8 has the effects in tow, after recording the sound to 7 & 8 i p[lay it back and the effects are not there i end up with the dry sound i had to begin with, i am following the manual as best as i can but with sad results can anybody help me

FRUSTRATED MUSO

Buss Recording Effects

When you select source for buss record choose EFF1 or 2, in addition to your tracks.

vf-16

thanks orc I know what you are saying and I am sure I did choose effect 1 & or 2 I will try thr procedure again, but from what I have said everything should be sweet right. Also can I choose effect 1 & 2 with the source as this is what I did last time check you later man

vf-16

well orc I have tried the sequence again only to find a dry sound at the end of the line, yes I am sellecting effect with the source no different. I was checking out some posts on the ezboard for vf-16 and there was an interesting discussion going on there. One dude was asking the same Q as me about buss recording seems he had the same problem another posted areply saying to use internal mixdown to apply effects to the recorded source. Do this by holding shift and pushing direct record button, not sure on this as that would take me from buss record right? Ive been over this so many times very frustrating. I know my vf was bought in the year 2000 could this be an older version giving me greif or am I paranoid don't know. I'll keep tring though must b something there by the way the link to the ezboard site is http://pub15.ezboard.com/fvf16frm1

buss record sorted

well orc and whoever I have finally sorted this one out, as well as sellecting the eff 1/2 on the source channels sellected I have found that in order for these effects to be laid on the record buss you must go to the pre/post eff 1/2 and set all the source channels to pre or else the effect simply won't carry through to the buss recorded track(s). To do this push the shift button and the eff1/eff/2 pre/post button you will see all available tracks are default to post sellect the trcks individually corresponding with the source tracks you have set and use the jog button to change the source tracks to pre its that simple. I have been through several post boards with this problem and noone has mentioned this I have only had my vf for 2 weeks so this is all new to me. Previously I had a 4-tracker tape machine namely the x-26 fostex so all good to be using a digital vf-16, hope this helps other people with there buss recording as the manual is preety sad.

over and out

fooled

ignore my last post as I was completely fooled on this. I went to listen to my mixdown buss record and to make sure the effs went through I muted the effs and what do you know dry as toast. What I was hearing in the way of effs was just feedback from the already 1-4 recorded tracks while they were in the pre setting and effs still engaged so I'm still trying to sort this out this is how I set the buss recording up.
1) push the input sellect button etc. 2) push the buss source button and choose tracks 1-4 as source ans eff 1 & 2 as source. 3) push buss rec button
and choose tracks 7/8 as record tracks, I recall the scene setting that I have setup previously as for my mixdown etc with all eq and effs set. 4) I push the record button and playback the source with faders 1-4 at there desired levels and raise faders 7 & 8 so as to moniter the sound on 7 & 8 etc I can clearly hear the tracks 1-4 coming through with effs in tow I return to the start of the song and push the play and record buttons to start recording, when the recording is finished I go back to the start to playback tracks 7/8 but they are dry as a bone. Have I missed something here does anyone know how to remidy this problem or has anyone had this problem cause it has got me beat. TOTALY CONFUSED.

effs recorded

well this time I sussed this baby out basically I didn't have enough level on the applied effs so it wasn't really registering on the buss recorded tracks and yes I feel like a complete idiot, oh well live and learn ah!
