...happier than you.
O.K... I downloaded the latest version of n-Track... and here's two glitches that I've encountered..

I record a breif track... just a dummy track... don't plan on keeping it.. prolly just doing mic tests and what not... so I close n-Track and do NOT save the .sng file...

the next day I go to lay a track in a new project... I click on "Record"... I start playing... I finish playing... I hit stop... I look at my wav file... it doesn't look as long as I thought it would... in fact.. it doesn't look at all like the song I just finished playing... so I click "play"... and what do I hear...?

the dummy track I recorded the night before!!!

I try this a number of times... hitting record and just mic testing and stoping it... each time.. instead of recording what I just said into the mic... it just inserts an old wav file from a session that I didn't even save...????? What the heck??? I searched my hard drive for every file named "new song_1.wav" and deleted them all... and finally it starts recording my voice, instead of just inserting a previously used wav file... is that buggy or what...??

Second problem... I finish recording a track... want to mix it down real quick... all of a sudden.. it's like it "loses" the wav file... what was previously looked like a wav file is now a big red "X"... and it says something like "can not find new song_1.wav, would you like to search for it."

What's up with that???

Uninstall n-Track. Delete everything in the n-Track folder, including the n-Track folder. Install n-Track.

That should do it!

But don't delete your VST plugins folder! That could be fun trying to download all of those over again.

naahh,.... I've got DSL.. :p It only took me a couple minutes to download the ones I've got now...

I'll try the uninstall... but I did have another semi-related question.

I just got a Delta 44 and included with it was Logic Delta... is that worth trying? I opened it up and messed with it for a bit and couldn't make heads nor tails of it... it's no where near as easy to use as n-Track... but is it maybe something I should try out?

I know this isn't exactly the best place to ask that question.... :p but I figured what the heck.

I think I know what's happening with problem 1. It's not a bug, it's a feature (actually appears to be a design flaw).
When you open up N-Track and don't initially save the song, it defaults to New Song 1.sng. Now if you don't save anything, when you record the track(s), it does save it as a wav file newsong1.wav (or something similar) in your Program Files\N-Track folder. Now when you close N-Track without saving the song, the wav file is still there, but there is no record of New Song 1.sng in your Program Files\N-Track folder....so...
When you go re-open N-Track, the default song will be "New Song 1.sng" If you saved the original .sng, the new file would be "New Song 2.sng". When you then tried to record the new track, it got confused because the default .wav file it tried writing to was already there (from the original mic test). Perhaps you could write Flavio and he could put some checks in so this wouldn't happen.

BTW, here's what I do with my songs - As soon as I'm ready to begin recording a new song, I do a Save As and save it as D:\<music folder>\<song_name>.sng. This will ensure that
1)The wav files are written to my data drive (rather than my system drive)
2)Each wav file is named <song_name>_<track_number>.wav.

Once each track is recorded, I go into the track properties and rename the wav files based on what it actually is (i.e. coolsong_vocals.wav)

Hope that helps!

Yeah... I had already figured a way around it... you're right.. the default name is "new song.sng" and any recorded wav files use the same naming conventions,.. so if you start a new track, it's just gonna create yet another "new song_1.wav"... and if there's already a "new song_1.wav" out there (in the n-Track folder), it just gets confused and uses that one. Saving the .sng file to a specific folder right off the bat does solve the problem... I just wanted to know if anyone else ran into this one, or the other one I mentioned... actually the other one is the more bizarre one... anybody run into that one before...?

I have to manually change the working folder to the folder my project is in. If I just do "save as" and save the song file to a folder, the actual wave files will still be written to whatever the working directory is set to.

That's what I do too. I also set the option that lets you name the .wav file every time before you record a take.

yeah... I have to do that too Slack...

are these things that Flavio will addess? or should I not bother emailing aboot them?

WATYF

Really? I'm pretty sure that if I do a 'Save As' before recording any tracks, all the tracks will then be initially saved in the folder where I saved the song.

PS Slack - my Win2K System has been up for 7 days with nary a hiccup. I haven't done any new recording but I've done some mixing with the Delta 44 WDM Drivers with out any problems.

Well, historically that's how n-Track has always worked. Maybe the file management system is better in 3.0 and I'm just used to working the old way?

Good to hear everything is working out for you on Win2k!!

Flavio will address anything that is demonstratable. You can contact him directly, but it's best to post over at the fasoft BBS first.

Flavio's customer service is about the best you'll find on the net. Everytime I've e-mailed him, he has resonded within a few hours. Now that is outstanding! Especially considering it is a one man operation. He even responded like this before I was a registered user and had problems.

Maybe Flavio's on vacation, because he has not responded to my questions, and it's been three days. It could very well be an anomaly, but it's kind of frustrating for me right now, and all I'm asking for is the URL where I can download version 3.0 (not 3.05. It's skrewing up big time on my system. Especially when I use Waves plug-ins.)

I encountered the same problem mentioned above when I changed over to 3.0.5. Every time I tried to record new tracks, some old junk tracks would show up instead. This happened even though I was saving my projects to their own directory (not the ntrack directory). Problem didn't go away until I erased all wav files from the ntrack directory. I've also run into some other wierd bugs with the new version, but have finally been able to beat it into submission.

One problem with the program crashing every time I stop recording i solved like this :

setting the program to record stereo wav files, and then setting it back to record dual mono files.

I have to do this every time I change the audio device settings. I'm using WDM with delta1010.
