hi there! i'm brand new here, and after some friendly advice.

i've done odd little bits of recording before on 4 track recorders (zoom MRS4) but nothing too ambitious. i'm after some advice on what equipment and programs i need. after a small amount of not very indepth research, i'm thinking that i might get a copy of reaper and a focusrite saphire 6 as both seem to get the thumbs up.

what i really can't work out is what to do about a drum program. i found one called PC Drummer. very simplistic. i like the way you create the patterns, it's exactly the sort of thing i'm looking for, except: to delete a note you have to right click on it and select 'delete' from a drop down menu in the middle of the screen. this is rubbish. it would seem obvious to me that you should be able to click on the note again to make it disappear, like checking and unchecking a box, and then right click only to control variables. i work very quickly and instinctively, and this right-click-menu deleting process would drive me mad. i've had ridiculous ammounts of grief trying to find free trials of the popular progs (ezdrummer, jamstix etc) and from what i can gather, they all seem a little bit involved for my purposes. any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

i'm after simplicity, i don't want to get too involved in the technical side of things just yet, i just need something computer based to record simple pieces across a few tracks (probably no more than 8) and for the moment i won't be recording any vocals; just drums, bass, guitars and keys.

as i said, any advice would be very much appreciated, but please go easy on the technical stuff/jargon as my brain is somewhat fragile. thankyou all very much.

In Reaper you can select your MIDI preferences and shortcuts, etc, so should be able to set up similar to what you want, although I think a double right click to delete would not be practical - too easy to delete when you just meant to select.

Fl Studio does right click to delete, not free but with the right samples it should net you a good sound. Also very easy to use and you can get into the technical side of things if you want to later.
