Ok, I just started working in a very high-class studio that uses only ProTools TDM systems and Mac G4s, etc. Top-notch stuff. Anyway, I want to set up a studio at my home. However, since I'm running it on PC, I will be using Vegas 5. I know what I need and want, I just don't know how to hook it up once I get it. Here is a list of what I will be getting:
2 or 3 M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI
Mackie Control Universal
Avalon 737 mic pre
Behringer tube compressors
Genelec 1031A Monitors
There are a few other things I will be getting, but for now, thats it. I will be mainly recording vocals and guitars with this setup until I get the limiters and pre-amp I want to do drums with. Now, here's my questions...
With the Delta1010, I get 8 tracks with each, so either 16 or 24 tracks. Now, I was looking at a Mackie 1642VLZ Pro mixer, where all the connections are right there at the top of the board, I'm familiar with that. However, on the MCU (which replaces the HUI), all the mic and line connections are nowhere to be found. I'm wondering how the hell do I get my tracks to go through that mixer, lol. With all this said, I do need to explain that I've never hooked stuff like this up before, but I can. I know basically how to hook everything else up, it's just getting it to go through that mixer, the MCU. Also, on the Delta1010, there are 8 I/O's, how would I go about sorting out where everything goes? This is how I imagine it:
Mic -> Avalon -> any other outboard rack gear -> somehow to the Mackie Mixer -> Delta1010
But then what? I still have an OUT on the Delta, what do I do with that? The audio is sent via the PCI card, so what do I do with the OUTs? This is really confusing. Anyway, I'll leave all that for now, see what kind of response I get. By the way, there is no money issue, I could get some really nice tube compressors, but I want the Behringer one, preference thing. I'm not asking for advice on what gear to get, as I'm pretty set on this setup. Anyway, let me know how to hook it all up! Please. Lol. Latah.
