Hey guys, been lurking for a while, learning a ton. Couldn't seem to find anything that related to my particular situation. I have a 2 bedroom apt, and I really have no need for a tv space or dining room table. I tried to draw a couple graphics, but all i have on my internet machine is gimp, its linux, and i cant figure out how to draw rectangles, and its seriously hurting my head.

One bedroom is to be the control room, its a standard 9 x 17 room, 8 foot ceilings. I'm willing to place the computer desk and mixer desk (just preordered an onyx 1640) wherever in relation to the monitors (hr824's), as long as i get good placement. One 17" wall is blank, the other has two closets all along, each short wall has a door and a window, respectively.

The room i'd like to be the "live" room is 23'6" by 17' , and one 8 x 8.5 ft corner is the kitchen. So theres a kind of an L shape. The divider for the kitchen is only 8 ft tall, leaving empty space above the kitchen. Further, the ceiling tapers from 8'4" celings to 13"10" ceilings at the kitchen end. Man, i wish i had a camera, because the better the picture i can give you the better your advice could be.

But, i'm mainly wondering where to place monitors in the control room, if it even matters for near fields, and in the "live" room, what kind of trickiness i can expect from the high ceilings. It really sounds pretty good to my ears, save for some slapbacks. I tried some floor rugs on the walls, and it seemed to tame the slapbacks pretty well. As far as lo freq. problems, i totally couldnt say, i have no real experience dealing with bass buildup.....but there arent too many corners, i suppose i could stay away from them/baffle them.

If i can get pictures up, I will asap...my bro has a digi cam i can use hopefully later today (apparently some (me) are too obsessed to light fireworks on a valuable day off ;]

But ya know, any kind of experience people have with a similar room, the tapered ceilings, what they tried, what worked.....will be totally helpful,

thanks

vaulted ceilings are usually better that flat ceilings. post this on www.johnlsayers.com . there is a forum there where you can get this answered

what part of ohio ya from?

from all over northeast, but i live in kent right now...we have a dying music scene, i really wanna help some bands get demos together/get myself some experience doing live tracking. Only 22, all my experience is pretty one at a time tracks, all computer based stuff. So yeah, i'll totally re post at that other forum, post pics to both in a little while....gonna kick it with my fam for a while, eat some food....free.....food.....m.......yeah

I also live in Columbus. *Begin shameless self promo :)*: I work at blue moon studios (http://www.2bluemoon.com) and could let you have some time at the board (probably more for mixing) if you bring me the bands you want to help out. Plus, if the band is doing a full demo I can do a good day rate. *End shameless self promo*! :)

You can reach me at the studio. I'm Aaron @ ext. 22.

Good luck!

awesome man, if its cool i'd love to just come check out the setup sometime, my band (Low in The Sky) plays at little brothers here and there, maybe we'll be down sometime. Not that far really. Pics on the website look pretty sweet, looks like a comfortable place to record.

Definitely. Just schedule a tour with me (ext 22) and I'll show you around.

BTW, I think my original reply was intended for another thread. OOOPS!
It was someone in Ohio wanting experience recording in a nicer facility, I think. I can't remember.... lol......
