Vanish mix/critique

New song that is pretty much finished. I sing and play everything but some of the keyboards. Thoughts on mix and song arrangement are welcome it's not finalized yet.


 
I thought this was pretty good. I really like the vocal. It's very good. Nice song too. I like the bass sound.

I thought the mix level, particularly in the chorus, was too loud. I kept turning it down.

The drums were mechanical sounding.

The other instruments (keys, guitars) get a little harsh sounding.

Oh and the harmony vocals were nice too.

thx Triple long time no see. I'll take a look at the fequencies of the keys and guitars.
 
Yeah, the chorus is too loud and squashed. The vocals get drowned by the other instruments in that part. Particularly the piano that comes in during the chorus. I think the kick drum is too powerful also - I'd cut a little <100 Hz for the kick.

I like the song. At first I was thinking "this is pure 1985"... but then I realized that it could also be War On Drugs ("pure 2015"). So you're either 22 or 52... either way it sounds good.
 
I like the song a lot!

Really sounds good. I heard the last version so you must have fixed it up pretty good. I don't hear any major issues for sure.
 
I listened to the latest mix..Sounds really good.
That (keyboard?) sound in the intro/interlude is my favorite part of the song.

thx alot kelvinator. yah that's a keyboard. My favorite part is the delayed appregio guitar on right
 
Listened to the latest mix.... Excellent writing and arrangement, very catchy and I enjoyed the song.
The verses are perfectly balanced for me. The instruments are masking the vocals in the chorus. The hard panned stuff specifically.
It is darn close though.....

I adjust eq a bit. I feel like you can clearly make out lead vocal.

 
I like the song and the performance. Does have an 80s vibe but that's not a bad thing. I agree that other instruments are masking the vocal in the chorus, the keyboard primarily. It's a nice keyboard part, but seems to be panned close to center and sounds in front of the vox.

Thx Robus appreciate the kind words. are you talking about the piano arppegio part that's panned left and right
 
I think we are talking about the same one. It's playing that three note riff (E, D, G) over the chorus. I didn't notice it was panned left and right. I hear it slightly right of stereo center.

yah that's it piano on hard left and piano on hard right with glockenspiel all playing the same thing.
