Hey guys, im going to be buying the Peavey Valve King and I want to get new tubes for it. I play very melodic heavy metal.

What are good tubes to put in for the sound i want? I have an avatar 4x12 with vintage 30's and i use a mesa cab/Orange cab (change it every so often)

The sound I'm going for is something with a good sounding mid with enough bass but what I'm playing needs to be understood well.

I heard about somehting claled slvanna tubes or somehtign from germany? Does anyone know the ACTUAL name? haha

Thanks

I had the VK112 for over a year, don't be so sure you want to swap the tubes just yet. I thought it had fairly decent sounding distortion stock. Plus if you add an overdrive it will send the gain throught the roof. Buy it and play it before investing in tubes IMO...

Agreed, Valve Kings sound pretty good straight out the door.

I think you're kidding yourself if you think you're going to alter the sound of the amp drastically just by changing the tube brand. Most of the tubes sold are just relabeled to be sold under a specific brand.

Do yourself a favor and keep the stock tubes in there until you need to replace them.

I'd change the speakers before I'd worry about changing the tubes.

Exactly. Great tubes might make the sound a little better but not totally different. I wouldn't call the VK a metal amp, but it does sound damn good stock for what it is.

I'm selling a 212, I'm really overstocked and I'm building a Twin that'll fit the nitch

I dunno, that turbo switch pushes the thing pretty deep into "crunch land". The reason I dig the VK so much is that it is so versatile, you get a nice fender clean sparkle to a good delta blues/classic 30 OD, all the way to some over the top crunch. 3 usable tones for a bargain basement price. YMMV
