I couldn't help noticing the buzz lately for the Marshall MXL V67.
I picked one up after work and did some test tracks. My Nashville proto cedar top acoustic was first...

Rosewood bass chromatic xylophone...

My brother David on tablas. He insisted on reverb. The other samples are all dry and unEQd.

I did my vox too but discretion prohibits me from going there. My signal chain was the MXL V67B into an M Audio AudioBuddy into a STAudio C-Port into a generic PIII 600 win98se.I think this mic is good for male vox and acoustic guitar, possibly drum overheads.I'll try that this weekend when I record my band.

Thanks for the attempt, but was unable to open your links.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the V67B? I've seen V67G and V67M. What means this B?

M just means Mars sell it.They have the standard three colors and the V67B is the black color,G is gold and green and I forget the other type.

Morning Tom! Yeah, I pulled my handy-dandy brochure and saw that. Thanks for the speedy reply! Where did you get yours, by the by?

C-Port preamp

I just bought a V67 and a c-port (yet to install the cport) - do I need to run out and buy a pre amp 'cause the c-ports are lame? Is the audio buddy's pre-amp that much better? I had been using my samick mixer preamps and didn't find them to be too bad, but I have no point of reference...

Kent-
I got my v67 at the Mars in Arlington Tx for $129.It comes with a hard mount but I recommend getting the optional V57 shockmount as well as a pop screen if doing vox.

et MA-
The two mic pres on the C-Port are more weak than lame, adaquate unless you have to crank them, then you can really hear the hiss.I bought an AudioBuddy and it is a decent clean pre with a lot of headroom, similar to Mackie VLZ sound (NOT TUBED).
I'm not familiar with Samick electronics but your mixer may well be fine (I assume you have phantom power).Congrats on the new gear.

regards all

Mars has the v67M

standards come in Gold/Green , black, or silver, though alot of retailers are only carrying the Gold/green which is very cool looking......

you really think so?? when they first came out, H. Gerst said they looked really cool too, and would give your studio a lot of "wow" appeal. Since I don't really give a rats ass about sound anyway, and only care about the "wrapper" (that's not rapper now!!), and only want to impress my friends who come over, I went with the intentions to buy one...especially the gold/green one. Well...the colors actually prevented me from buying it. I thought the gold looked like the gold plastic stuff you see in model aiplane kits, and the green looked like someone had a can of spray rustoleum. It looked really cheap to me. In contrast, the black mxl2001 I have (which I bought when they first came out...and I actually like...so there!!!) looks much spiffier to me. I guess if the V67g had a red colored shockmount option, with flouresent rubber bands, that might close the deal for me however:p

Yeah the gold is fantastic in pictures and if the lights in the room are down pretty low. Otherwise it looks really really lame. But that's ok!

Kewl, Tom! That's where I got mine. After convincing the sales weasel that because I knew they would not allow me to return it they must prove to me it would pass a signal first.

Mine is the V67M. M as in Mars, or Mogami. Suffice to say, it is black. I would have preferred the green one, myself, but I just couldn't bring myself to mail order a mic. Can't deal with the notion of paying retail for a mic by mail from a faceless corporation. Gotta hear it first. Oh well.

Nice playing... The mic sounded okay but nothing too inspiring. Do the mp3's do it justice? Have you used it on any tracks yet? The tablas sounded best but that may have just been because of the reverb,

i think the acoustic guitar clip and the tablas sounded pretty darn good....im not sure what a xylophone sounds likie naturally so i can comment much there.....

just remember guys, were talking about a $129 mic and a $40/channel preamp....for a $169 signal chain, that is pretty amazing.....

Thanks for the kind words Gidge. You have been a consistant booster of this mic.And along with the rest of the buzz here at home-wreck and elsewhere, that urged me to give it a shot.It doesn't exhibit the hot top end of my NT1,although according to your buddy Alan Hyatt the chinese factory 737 Audio or somesuch birthed em both.Harvey's dissasembly photos sold me on the QC of Marshall mics. What a resource for us here he is!
Do you have any musica posted?Like to hear your stuff.Since its Fat Tuesday I guess I better say, les say bon ton roule, mon ami.
regards
Tom
