I was wondering if the spdif out of the v-amp pro would make a better sound than the 1/4" outs of the v-amp2. Basically, does spdif preserve the sound better?
thanks

It saves you conversion from digital to analog and back again, so yeah, I would expect it to sound better unless your idea of better is the noise from a Behringer DAC. :D

This is an apples and oranges question. Amps produce sound based on analog inputs. Very very few have any ability to accept a digital input.

The SPDIF is a digital output, which produces no sound by itself. It would generally have to be connected to another digital device that in turn converts the digital signal back to analog before producing sound.

The SPDIF connections are generally used when you have other effects in your rack that accept digital inputs. That way you minimize the number of D/A and A/D conversions, which can produce a better overall sound.

For example I have both a V-Amp Pro and a TC Electronics G-Major. I connect the V-Amp digital out to the G-Major digital in.

I imagine he's refering more to direct recording the V-amp than actually setting it up in a rig, such as an spdif input on his sound card? I don't know.

I use the spdif out on my V-Amp pro into my soundcard and I think it sounds a little better through my M-Audio Delta 66's converters than using the analog out. It's not much of a difference, but I think it's noticable.

I imagine just about any decent converters will be better than the Behringer's. :p

To me there is a small improvement going with SPDIF. There is a little bit less noise, but the difference is very minimal. I have a Delta 2496 and a Delta 1010, and to me the V-AMP Pro's DAC sounds comparable in as much as you can tell since it is only converting modeled sounds. I wouldn't go with the V-AMP Pro over a V-AMP 2 for an expected drastic improvement in sound quality alone, if the other features aren't needed.

thanks alot for all the quick responses. I was thinking about getting a v-amp pro so i could use spdif out to my delta 1010 spdif in, but apparently the general consensus is that its not that greater of quality... so i will stay with my v-amp 2. Thanks alot!

Believe you are correct. I took this as a live sound question.
