I've got about $100 to spend and it seems the V-Amp is the best option in that price range. This would be used mainly for direct, home recording, mainly just for fun.

I was set on the V-Amp2 but recently read that the bass v-amp has settings for guitar, keyboards and vocals, all of which would be useful for my home use.

Does anyone really know ? Any other suggestions in that price range ?

Thanks

Tony

I would'nt expect the extra settings for vocal, guitar, and keyboard to be very vast. I don't think the bass v-amp would be something to cover all your bases (no pun intended). I have'nt tried one but have read good things about it for recording bass guitar. What instrument are you most concerned with at the moment? If it's guitar, I would probably get the guitar v-amp. If it's bass, get the bass v-amp. Hell, they're both pretty cheap so just grab one and start saving for the other.

I have a bass V-amp and while it does have a few settings for guitar and keys they are much more limited than you would get from a dedicated guitar amp simulator.

If you do get a guitar amp simulator, I suspect you could find a couple of clean settings that you could use as a "bass DI".

I'm very pleasesd with the bass V-amp (in particular since I only paid $65 for a barely used store demo) - but I bought it only for bass (I have a POD and a J-Station for guitars).

I love my V-AMP2 for quick recording of riffs, and basic demo type stuff.
If I have a riff in my head, I power up the v-amp 2 (I keep it connected to the audio interface of my PC for quick access), fire up wavelab or audacity, hit record, and then go. I try to put down once little riff or melody every few days or so, or at least whenever I come up with one that I like. I have a patch that I made for recording bass direct, it uses the tube pre-amp and no cabinet model. I think the tone I get is pretty decent. If you wanted, I could post a sample.
