now, my guess is that this pioll has been done hundreds of times! but things change, peoples opinions change. what are peoples opinions on the pod xt pro and the v-amp pro, which do you prefer and why? thanks guys!

Steve

i bought the rack version of the behringer v amp, for my dad, i think it a pretty decent peice of equipment. he was using a peavy transtube effects amp, and the quality of that was terrible, lots and lots of noise, so i got the v amp, and we notice a big change, it very queit, if your at least 5-10 feet away, its adds some warmth in your guitar, and the midi is awsome to hook a foot pedal too. the amp sims are good, only thing i dont really like on this peice of equipment is the effects that could be cuz im using them wrong.

Then why did you vote for the POD....

Because I don't own a V-amp. It would be facetious to vote for a product I don't own.

i agree with you chris Klein the amp sims are great. dont sound like the amps but definetely have the characteristics and are great sounds. The effects arent great, i can only seem to get a nice sound from the chorus.

My bad...I took it as you don't own either of them...sorry

I own the original Pod Pro... if I had to replace it...I'd save the coin and buy the behringer...

Guitar:
When I got my POD Pro I tested it against the V-amp. The amp sims are pretty much the same, Behringer ripped off the POD from Line 6 part by part but they didn't get the effects right, the ones from the V-amp suck bad, the POD effects are SLIGHTLY better but I don't use them, I have a Lexicon LXP 15 for effects.
I only have the POD Pro, the previous version to the XT Pro, I can't speak about the XT 'cause I never even tested it, but I heard its a big improvement.

Bass:
If you don't mind having the normal version buy the POD, if you HAVE to have it racked buy the V-Amp, the difference is not worth the 400 bucks.

What's really cool is that Pod XT pedalboard thing, the new one. My brother has the Pod XT, and a guy I just toured with used the Pod XT pedalboard. The pedalboard is very cool, and seems like it has the right features for use with guitar.

As far as a comparison with the V-Amp, I can't say either way because I haven't directly compared them. But based on my past experience with Behringer gear that is a rip-off of other gear, it's better to go with the real thing than the copy.

Having a piece of Behr equipment would be bad for my self-esteem. So would an honest self-assessment of my mucical abilities.

But I have heard a lot of good things about the V and good tones, too.

Perhaps the question should be: if the Pod XT and V-Amp were *the same price*, which would you prefer?

The main reason people buy Behringer is that the products are so cheap. If they were priced like everybody else's products, and had to compete on quality and sound, then I doubt they would sell anywhere near what they are doing now. It's the price that is blinding.

As far as sound goes the V-Amp Pro competes very well against the POD and unlike the V-Amp 2 it's got a metal case.

If behringer products were the same price they could spend much more time on engineering and much more money on parts. To compare behringer products to much more expensive products without accounting for price is ignoring important factors which go into manufacturing. In any event, all I've owned is a flextone II head and I really disliked it. I also tried the v amp out at guitar center and really disliked that. So I didn't vote. I do like my sansamp though (although I'm starting to realize it turns thin in the mix).

Yeah, we are talking about amp modellers. :)

If it's a shootout between the Pod XT Pro and The V-Amp (I'm assuming 2.0), then I'd have to say the V-Amp hands down. Granted, I don't have either, so my opinion is based entirely from hearing other people use them (which also brings their skill with the equipment into the equation), but every sound I've ever heard from a V-Amp was better. As has already been said, they don't necessarily represent the amps they are supposed to be modelling...but they've always had a good sound on their own.

Yeah I know... I was saying I've used the v amp but I've only used the flextone (which is basically the pod in amplifier form) I was just giving a background on my experience with modellers from both companies and I think they are both pretty bad (digital sounding)... And to restate, the sansamp kills both in my opinion.

Anyways that post was mainly supposed to be a response to the sans price comparison which I think is ridiculous.

awesome

The idea of eliminating price from the comparison is simply to get people to stop thinking with their pocket books and only use their ears. That's how gear should be compared: strictly on how it sounds. Then later you can decide what you can afford.

A blind listening test between the Pod XT and the V-Amp is really the only way to decide this. I'm prepared to be surprised, blind tests can have a way of doing that. But blind tests can cut both ways.

Please, hard facts here:

I understand that there is a design problem with the V-Amp Pro (rack) units concerning...

1: Backup storage and battery failure.

2: Noise.

True or not?

I almost bought a pair of these - one for bass and one for guitar - to use in my studio, because they have better S/PDIF features than the modeler I am currently using, but this information discouraged me from the purchase - at least until I can get it straightened out.

Thanks for any actual hard info from users with real experience with these units.

My unit started acting up and losing presets, but I had backed those up so everything worked out. The battery had gotten loose and after fixing that it's worked perfectly. I have no idea where the noise issue came from. Some models you will notice some "noise" especially with high gain but no more than my Ampeg tube amp...actually the Ampeg is somewhat noisy when turned up.
So I'm lost on the noise issue, might have been some bad units shipped or something. I use the S/PDIF all the time.

Join the Yahoo group and you can get a lot more info. Behringer makes a lot of not so good gear but the modellers sound as good as PODS to my ears but of course they will never sound as good as the real deal. but they do come recommended by neighbors everywhere! :D
