idiots unite!
I am not into MIDI, but I've found that I may need it!! :)

Hey guys...this is the first time I'm asking you for some technical help.
As I'm heavily into 'delay' FX when playing gits, I found that the PC software for the Vamp could give me total, precise and real-time control, compared to using the 'tap' button on the unit itself, for example.

I've got the lead, (5 pin DIN's labelled 'in' and 'out', other side into an old cheapy ESS sound/game card) ...(I really felt like I was going backwards installing this thing into my PC, but I'll only use it for midi comms).
I plugged the DIN plug labelled OUT into the IN of my Vamp and the DIN plug labelled IN into the OUT of Vamp....is that right?...the other side going to the 'game port' of card.
PC 'sees' that it has a MIDI card onboard, seems fine. (MPU401?)

Now to Vamp.....I've checked that the MIDI THRU is 'dis-enabled' (tap LED is off) and channel 1 is selected...is that right?

Ok......now I run the VAMP2 icon and I get this warning
"...if you connect a device with it' s midi-thru function active, it can't respond to scanning..."....ABORT/RETRY.
Guys, I've gone thru my booklet, internet manuals, supplementary writings and I'm not getting it.
Help me Obewon-kenobe, your my only hope....
Kindest Regards, :)

Why not just record audio and add the delay afterwards, or there may be(I'm sure there will be) a way to have it real time so you still get the feel, rather than midi?

why do you have midi thru enabled? to control the v-amp with your pc, you need a midi cable between the pc midi out and v-amp midi in. that should be it.

Hi guys...I'm not too sure that you have read my post in-full?

First.....Midi will only be used to transmit parameter data only..(tweaking the controls, rather than via front panel of PRO, nothing else)ie control from PC.

Secondly, I don't have 'thru' enabled, as per my post. (tap led is off?)

Thirdly...I stated that I do have the midi cable....(labelled IN to OUT, OUT to IN ?)

Thanx anyway guys,
Regards,..............

i guess i misread your post. i thought the original post said you had midi thru enabled. anyway, you only need to send midi one way. from the pc to the v-amp as far as i can tell, hence a single midi cable, pc out > v-amp in. make sense?

Hi.
so on the din cable marked out, i send that to the PRO midi 'in'?

Midi Out from the PC to Midi In on the V-amp
Midi Out From the V-Amp to Midi In on the PC

The message you're getting appears to be a generic "I can't hear the V-Amp" from the V-amp software and the midi though setting is the most common reason. You'll need two midi cables for the PC to read the V-amp status.

Check your cabling... then swap one side of your ins and out, and give that a try...

Make sure if you set the midi channel to 1... that both the software and the V-amp have the same setting...

And I think if you do a search... someone else posted about a similar problem...

Hey, thanx man..so much.....but yep, tried the 'swap'..still no comms.
Doing searches as I speak, but no avail just yet.
Maybe I should just get a USB type interface...I hate giving up though!! I feel that I'm so close to nailing it!
Again, thankyou.

Check the cables with a multimeter and make sure they're wired correctly. I've had more than my share of bad MIDI cables over the years.

Point taken, they test for continuity just fine.
I'm pretty sure it's gotta be a PC/card/setup issue.
The midi port is being seen as MP401?

YAY!!! I found the problem!!! Shity sound card driver!!! (it's just a crappy Fortemedia FM801 I bought in 1998!! Just for midi!!)) Got the XP driver for it (amazed that people still write stuff for it!!) and VPRO now talks to me!! I can now set the delay up perfectly/easily!!
You know that feeling that goes from.."ah shit" to "you fucking beauty"?
well I got that!
Regards,
Superspit!
