I just bought a V-Amp Pro and I have just started playing with it. I was just wondering if anyone uses the V-Amp Pro for recording guitars 100% with no miced amp at all added to the recording? I recorded a small 1:00 sample last night and I love it.

Does any also use and Pedals (EQ, Compression, Noise Gate, distortion) along with the V-Amp Pro? My current guitar set up for recording is:

Jackson DKGMT Kinky w/EMG
Marshall MG Series 250DFX
Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Pedal
Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal
Boss CS-3 Compression Sustainer Pedal
Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal
Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner

I am happy with the recorded sound but it is hard to record a mixed amp in an apartment and with the V-Amp Pro I can record at 3:00 in the morning if I want.

Any opinions or thoughts?

Peter

Yep, I use the V-Amp with the Aphex 204 and DBX 166XL Compressor.
Here is a little song I did a while back. There's no vocals. And just did a quick take of drums so it's not too tight. Oh well, have a listen.

I use the V-amp but not direct. The sounds I was getting were flat and dull sounding usualy bass heavy (which is funny cause I choose the V-amp against the POD because through headphones I was dissapointed in the POD's bass, or so I thought). Plugged it into an Altec Lansing 75 watt mono power amp and a cab and BAM, great miced sounds. Still, the cab simulated sounds will get the point across in a demo, wouldn't trust it to a final product though.

Did you listen to the song I posted above? If you know how to tweak the V-Amp you can get great sounds out of it.

What are the Aphex 204 and DBX 166XL Compressor? Are they Pedals? If so how do you have them with the V-Amp Pro?

I am at work right now but when I get home I will check out your song.

I use the V-AMP direct for recording song "concepts" and scratch guitars. Sometimes the scratch V-AMP Pro track winds up on the recording, because a lot of times I can make it sound better than the cheapo amp a guitarist brought with him to record.

It will never sound better than a nice, $1000 tube amp in the hands of a capable producer. But if you know what you are doing it can sound better than just about any amp under $500.

Here is a song idea in which I recorded all the guitars direct with the V-AMP Pro, including the bass intro. I still haven't got around to retracking it with real drums and a real amp yet - but the idea was to capture the concept before i lost it...

Nice sounds with the V-amp. My ear is not the best in the world so I would never know that it was not a miced amp. Thank you.

Killer songs dude! Hardcore/Deathcore? Good to see that the v-amp can get some good heavy sounds!!!

I would suggest adding a pre-amp between the V-amp and your soundcard. I used one of the instrument inputs on my M-audio Octane. So I had Guitar > V-amp > Pre > soundcard. You could also get something like a DMP-3 or something in that neighborhood.

i had a digitech 2120, which is a preamp with tubes and all that crap, and i just sold it. i absolutely hated it direct into my interface. it sound alright live but made a crappy guitar recording. ive never used the vamp, but im guessing its a decent unit based on others opinions.

I have a Digitech 2120 and a V-Amp Pro. They are both great units for direct recording as long as you take the time to adjust them properly. The trick to the 2120 is to use parametric EQs in the FX section to create a pseudo speaker simulator.

yeah i adjusted it well- adjusted the price on ebay to $350 and bought a fender tube amp. i had the unit for about 8 months now and it just wasnt what i was looking for. i have a marshall el34 50/50 poweramp with it but the sound wasnt what i wanted. sold em both.. oh well. atleast i didnt lose any money in it because both pieces are really nice sought-after units. on the other hand, i have a line 6 spider half stack that im stuck with. i paid $800 plus $50 shipping and i cant get rid of it, unless i want to sell it for half. the thing is flawless too. that thing was a freakin waste more than anything else. i mean its ok but solid state sucks.... :)

Does anyone use any effect pedals with the v-amp? If so what pedals do you use and how do you have it going to the v-amp?

Thank you...

I sold my V-AMP for a better live pedal, I do use it for recording direct (amp/cab modeling/effects/ect..), but i've found the single effects pedals (I have a grunge and a Ross Radio phase pedal) are by far better than the ones in my new pedal (KORG Toneworks something) and my old V-Amp which took a lot of work to get a good sound out of. I also didn't like the knobs, I like a good knob that I can tell which preset its on without looking for the light and such.

Hey thajeremy what did you use to record your drums and BTW he's freakin' awsome drummer, he really shines thru I use a combination of a V-amp for bass and a POD and a Marshall half stack with a A/B switch I have great results on guitar trax and bass trax, except my drum trax suck if I can only get a decent drum recording I'm using a HD24 with focusrite micpre's and a A&H board for mix down. I thought I might get some triggers to record my drums that what your drum sounded like to me but they still sounded great.

that drummer was a f**king MONSTER!!!! I used e604's on 4 toms....3 up high and one on the floor. ATM29HE on the snare...anyone who has read my posts on drums knows that I love this mic on snare...true..I havent tried any of the $1000 mics...but of the 57's, 609's 604's, Co4's....the common budget stuff....the ATM is my choice...anyway...the kick was triggered...it was his setup so I dont know the brand or anything....MK012's overhead....all through an M-audio Octane and into a Terratec EWS88/MT sound card...which is now for sale...:)

ANyone get any noise/static when recording with the v-amp? Not even recording, just plugging into the v-amp and listing to yourself play and there is noise/static/buss.

What can be dont to stop the noise? Anyone?

It is most likely one or more of these things causing noise.
1] you are too close to the computer monitor
2] you are too close to the v-amp
3] you have the noise gate set incorrectly
4] you have a bad cord
5] your guitar is not properly shielded/single coil pickups
