I want to have a dedicated hard drive for my laptop so i can just use it solely for recording. The problem is i don't have a firewire port on it. Would a USB Hard drive be too slow to keep up with my recordings (using sonar 3, recording maximum 2 tracks at a time 24bit 96khz). Any advice would be appreciated

That would depend. If it is a regular usb port, then no, but if it is usb 2.0 it may be, although I am not too sure. I have a usb drive, but my computer doesn't have usb 2.0, so i just use it to transer projects back and forth between computers. If I had 2.0, then It would be mush faster, and I could probably use it for my recording drive. If I am wrong, please correct me on this.
