I currently have a Motu 828 mk3 hooked up with a Focusrite 8 mic pre, and I also have a Motu 828 mkII with another Focusrite 8 mic pre and I connected them together using a firewire cable to each other. Everything is connected to an external word clock system. I then aggregated them in mac osx audio/midi utility. So it is seen in cubase as one device. The problem i'm having is when I plug a mic into my 2nd 8 mic pre, all the xlr inputs are read in the one input. Like they are all stereo, so it records them all together? Any suggestions or help?

Thanks
Eric

I thought the 828mkII was usb? Anyways... onto the problem at hand..

Hook Up Solution

A) Focusrite Preamp 1 --> ADAT Cable --> Motu 828mk3 Optical In A
B) Focusrite Preamp 2 --> ADAT Cable --> Motu 828mk3 Optical In B
C) MOTU 828mk3 --> Firewire Cable --> PC

That would be how I would do things....

(I'm assuming the Octopre LE but this should work with the standard Octopre aswell)

There is an 828MKII USB, but the original 828MKII was FireWire.

Ahh..... I did not know that....

Gracias :)

A Secondary option is that if you want to use both MOTUs (instead of that first solution using only one) you could connect the 828mkII and 828mk3 together via lightpipe rather than firewire.. that would list your inputs as 1-16 coming out of whichever device you have firewired to the PC...

I'd still probably go with the first option thought (shrug) but it's however you wanna do, either way should fix your problem I would think...
