using the stereo in of the Yamaha md 8 - need help

I had connected a cd player to the stereo in of the Md8 and I encounter two problems.

A) when i use the stereo out of the md 8 - the cd sound cannot be heard.

b) when i try to record a session for all the 8 tracks and the stereo in cd - I could not record the sound produced by the stereo in.

Can any one enlightened me on these matters ? is it due to the design of the md8 that i cannot record the stereo in .

The recorder can't record from the Stereo in. Its primarily designed for confidence monitoring or playback from a stereo or pc. My work around which works great is to take some rca to 1/4 unbalanced adapters and plug the stereo in directly into an input on the md8. like channel 1 and 2, remember to pan hard left and right.
