Using the optical ins on my 002

Yes but be careful as the optical input path of the 002 does not support all 8 in's at higher than (I believe) 48K.

Most gear doesn't. AFAIK, it's (mostly?) only very recent gear that supports 8 channels at higher rates.

The ADAT protocol only supports up to 48 kHz at 8 channels, or 4 channels at 96 kHz using S/MUX, which basically splits each 96 kHz channel into two 48 kHz channels, sending every other sample down the adjacent channel.

You can very easily visually tell if gear supports 88.1/96 kHz at 8 channels in ADAT because it will have two ADAT inputs and/or outputs.

Actually the optical in on a Digi002 does not take higher than a 48k sample rate at all, regardless of number of channels. Your reply might imply that the 002 will still take the higher sample rates at a reduced channel count, which it does not.

except with optical S/PDIF. You can get two channels at 96kHz with that if you'd like.

Right on Benny. I guess I wasn't thinking S/PDIF when I posted. I was thinking S/MUX, which the Digi products don't support. But you are absolutely correct.
