hello

would you guys recommend, or at least not UN-recommend, using an external soundcard, in my case the m-audio firewire 1814, for everyday use such as listening to mp3, and watching movies?

not just turning it on and using for recording purposes.

this means it would stay on, through its ac adapter, for about 10 hours a day.

thanks

That's fine. They're made to be on for a long time. I have the Firebox which is on constantly as my computer is. Is there no powering option through firewire on the 1814? I think that would be better than having it powered by AC.. dont know why..

cool, thanks.

actually, i think it would be worse having it bus powered via firewire, because that would stress the computers power, i believe. and not just regular socket energy.

its weird though, because my 1814 is SUPPOSED to power up with just the 6 pin - 6 pin firewire, but when i follow the procedures to turn it on (turning its power on before turning the computer on)... nothing happens when just connected by firewire.

it only powers on when i use the ac adapter.
i guess because since the computer is off on the computer, there is no way to power on the 1814 through the firewire.
but why would they write that in the manual?

anyway, they scared the sh*t out of me by saying i can irreparably damage my 1814 or my firewire port by not following this procedure.... so....
