Using Alesis v49 with GarageBand

Hi there, I'm struggling to figure out how to use the knobs on the Alesis v49 to control functions in GarageBand. I can hear notes and the pitch wheel works, but don't know how to assign functions to the touchpad and knobs.

I don’t believe Garageband offers any midi mapping outside of the record, play, forward, rewind buttons used from GarageBand Remote,
