Hi,

This is my first post to this forum and from what I have read I think it is going to be an incredible tool. I have a Tascam DP-01 FX and I am running my mic's through a Behringer 8 track preamp. I was recording a trumpet and as I was recording it, what I heard through the earphones sounded like I was really overpowering the mic, but, when I played back what I had recorded it sounded great. This has me totally baffled. I had the earphones in the Tascam and I tried 3 different sets to make sure it wasn't a blown speaker in the earphones. Anyone have any input on this? I would appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks,

Gary

Your monitoring level and your recording level are 2 separate levels. What has happened most likely is your recording level was fine, but your monitoring level was so loud that it was clipping and producing a nasty sound in your headphones.

It's easilly done. But for newcomers, it can't be stressed enough that the level you record at is totally different to the level you hear what you're recording. You could record so low as to hardly register yet simultaneously monitor so loud you blow your eardrums out.
The vice is also versa.
