I would like to get an old keyboard sequencer along the lines of a Roland D-20 (but not that one LOL). It has to be syncable to a track in Sonar so I can use it as my master for drums and bass.

In other words, I want to be able to write the arrangement and drum patterns in the sequencer, and then bring this into Sonar, hopefully as midi, not audio, and do my electric guitars and Sonar softsynth tracks from there.

What kind of older products will do this? I say older, cuz new I'm sure I'm looking at a lot more than the $800Cdn I can afford.

ps the reason I said no D-20, is because I owned that, and there was no way to insert/delete patterns in the middle of the song if you wanted to after...

Or do you think something along the lines of an old Alesis drum machine (and I've been looking at the DR-770???) would work? Just the drums would be hardware/external then.

My aim is to create the arrangement and basic timing OUTSIDE Sonar, and bring it in to Sonar when done as a track.

Any help would be appreciated.

Shawn:)

OK, I'll make this even simpler, since I've narrowed it down myself:

Can I use something like the DR-770 drum machine, write my drum tracks in it, and have that be a synchronizable track in Sonar? I mean, make a midi track in Sonar, and hook the drum machine up to it, so that when i create something and hit play on the drum machine, it will cause the recording/playback to start in Sonar with any other tracks/audio guitar etc. that I've created or am creating???

I'm brand new to MIDI. Should I ask in newbie or Cakewalk forums?

Thanks everyone:)

Shawn
