I've got an IMac running OS 9.2. Would like a user friendly audio & midi set up. I tried the Free Pro Tools, but found it's interface way too confusing, too may options, screens very cluttered, and setup time each session way too long(computer not dedicated soley to recording). Would a simple USB breakout box make controlling Pro Tools simpler, or complicate matters?

Heres my hardware:
IMac,plenty of disk space, no writeable CD, OS9.2 &OMS
Midiman 1x1 interface
Korg X5D synth
Tascam 464 4trk(older version of the MKll.)
Some Good Mikes

Features I would like:
1.up to 2 track mono or 1 trk stereo simultaneous record
2.basic midi, nothing too involved(I really liked the old Cubase Lite)
3.ability to add reverb to final mix.
Would like a simple interface/program that will run on my present hardware & OS. My music is mostly acoustic. Would use midi mostly for occasional keyboard or drums, or as metronome/ghost tracks that would be left out of final mix.

Any Mac heads out there familiar w/ what's available as far as bang for buck software and hardware I should get?

Thanks,
Whit

Bro...
I had Cubasis VST when I was running OS9 but I recently updated to OSX and got hooked up with Peak LE 3.0
Compared to Cubasis VST (the little brother or sister of Cubase) Peak LE is harder to use. Cubasis had me recording in a half hour....easy....real easy..and I had no idea what I was doing....still don't but thats another post...
You'll need to get an audio interface...again...check out Musician's friend Edirol USB something for like 60 bucks....I'm using it....works good....but I've never used anything more expensive....Finally, I would consider upgrading to OSX as I dont even use the "Classic" mode anymore. I dumped everything on Classic for more room for recording with Peak LE....

good luck...

Michael
