Use mic-pre with line-input sources?

Folks,

I've got a new M-Audio DMP3 pre coming my way--it should fit well into my cheapo home studio (Yam aw16g standalone, SP B1 mics, etc.). Is there any use for the DMP3 besides boosting mic signals?

Just wondering what you think about the pros and cons of sending line sources to the DMP3, too. My first reaction would be: no need to do it unless maybe throwing a bass guit directly into it--just adding noise to the path.

But I've heard of people sending elec. keyboard signals or modeled guitar signals (via Pod, J-Station, etc.) through a pre with claimed positive results. Of course, I've also heard of people sleeping with spaghetti in their noses.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

J.

The pres in the Yamaha should be better...but you can use it to add more phantom inputs...Id have reccomended one with a coaxial out so you can utilize the digi in to add 2 inputs.

I looked in on a 24 track version of that deck...but nobody was selling one.
