USB.....why?

So as most of you know, BLUE recently released a USB mic, I think it's called "Snowball." So while I was looking around at some other companies for fun, I found this:

Whats the point of a USB mic? You'd have to be standing so close to your computer when you recorded that computer noise would be unavoidable, you could never use the mic with any standard preamp or mixer or other outboard gear, you'd have to depend on a crappy stock ADC, and it would just plain be annoying. I don't get it. I hope this isn't a trend.

Yeah but:

"For the first time ever, musicians who record music on computers have a simple, affordable way to capture high-quality vocal and acoustic instrument performances."

Well I'm convinced. :D

You could have a 15ft USB cable, you can also get active usb repeaters.

Most people who are in the market for a cheap ($79 - $139) mic have cheap equipment. The usb cable could eliminate the cheapo balanced / unbalanced circuit in the mic, cheapo cable, cheapo preamp and cheapo soundcard. Assuming they spend a dollar or two on the A/D converter it would actually be a much better option for people on a really tight budget.
